I really need to learn

I really need to learn that when anyone says: “Come on over, we’re going to the movies but we don’t know which one yet” that I need to not go. It was my failure to realize this that resulted in my unfortunate viewing of Seredipity tonight, and Joy Ride last weekend. To be entirely fair, Joy Ride wasn’t really as bad as I was expecting thanks to the contributions of one Steve Zahn though I have yet to see him in a role as good as in Safe Men. Seredipity, on the other hand, was a complete waste of time. Bleh. It would have been bad enough on its own merits, but the inclusion of Molly Shannon really served to amp up the suckage. Amazingly, she managed to carry over parts of her unforgivably annoying SNL characters into this film role. I guess no one had the heart to tell her that not only is she not funny, but also gratingly annoying every moment she’s on screen. I hearby nominate myself for the job.

Disturbing Search Requests is an

Disturbing Search Requests is an interesting site if a little, well, disturbing. The basic idea is that whenever a blogger gets a hit on their page from a search query that has nothing at all to do with their page they can post it here for a laugh. The search requests tend fall into the categories of mystifying, horrifying, and bemusing. More often than not the hit is the result of the searched words appearing randomly in the pages and pages of weblog text, entirely out of the context that the searcher intended. As a result, a search for “hot teen goats” leads someone to a random innocent blogger. Personally, I enjoy the irony that many of the people are searching out of voyeurism and instead are becoming the victims of a sort of indirect reflexive voyeurism. Their search request is now on display for whoever wants to see it. Of course not all the searches are for porn, and some of them are just genuinely baffling. By including “hot teen goats” in my post, I’ve practically guaranteed myself a few disturbing search requests. I’ll just add a few more things and see what I get: naked girl Britney squirrel porn! Next time Google picks up my page, I’ll see who drifts by. I have a feeling its going to make me feel icky.

Excellent OpenGL tutorials abound @

Excellent OpenGL tutorials abound @ NeHe’s site. If I had more free time, I could spend hours there playing with the sample code. Unfortunately, most of my free time these days goes straight into Operation Flashpoint, the primary reason for yesterday’s impulse purchase of a new graphics card. So much for self-improvement. Meanwhile, I’ve got a graphics lab due and an MSE midterm on Monday. School is starting to feel like school again, and I remember why I wanted to get finished so badly before.

I’m stuck at work so

I’m stuck at work so I figured I might as well post since I haven’t done that in quite a while. Got a new graphics card last night, and getting it to work proved to be a 3 hour ordeal that ended with me updating my BIOS. Not fun. In addition, I managed to destroy my old graphics card in the removal process. Good thing the new one finally worked. Right now I’m currently in the middle of the interviewing process with Harris and Evans and Sutherland. I’ve had one interview with each company so far, and both seemed to go fairly well and indicate that there would be a follow-up. Both are jobs that I think I’d enjoy, but both would require major relocation, to Florida and Utah respectively. Do I want to move? Not really, but I guess its something I need to consider. I’ll worry about it when I actually manage to get a job offer.

godspeed you black emperor! wow.

godspeed you black emperor! wow. I was going to post right after the show last night but I was just too tired. There ended up being an opening band, and godspeed played for over 2 hours so I didn’t get back till 1 am. Damn artsy types, staying up all hours. I’m old and cranky and I couldn’t skip my 8:30 class. The show itself was really amazing, especially the film aspects of their show. I’ve seen other bands try to incorporate background projections into their shows and it just never impressed me, but gybe! managed to come up with some really interesting expressive imagery that just fit the feel of their show perfectly. Also when they went into full on rock mode, it was incredible. I’m quite lucky to have survived. The Wexner center happens to be a great place for shows as it turns out. Its not sweaty, smokey, and stinky. The crowd was also pretty different from what I’m used to for the average show. It was a sold out show, but between songs and sets you could talk at a normal level without having to yell. No drunk people shouting out song titles here. Of course, maybe it was just due to the obscurity of gybe!’s song titles. The only songs that I recognized were a greatly altered much more rocking version of the Dead Flag Blues, Moya, and BBF3. Hopefully, they were playing a lot of new stuff. The only downside to the whole evening was that I convinced my friend Ben to go, even though he had never heard gybe! and as it ended up it wasn’t really his sort of thing. I felt bad that it went on so long for his sake.

Hey Will reading up on some of your past posts. I remember the GSYBE show I liked it but I am even older then you. So withouth a chair to sit my lazy butt in I got tired. Also I worked a full time job at that were I stood all day so that is my explination. And as far as the video it was cool and all but very reminiscent of that seen in American Beauy where the dude shows the video of the bag floating around. It was like that but with birds circling around a little to artsie.

Saw Zoolander tonight, and it

Saw Zoolander tonight, and it was definitely funny but not that often laugh-out-loud-funny which was a little disappointing. Of course, I’d already seen half of the punchlines over and over in previews so that probably had something to do with it. Between this movie and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, I’m slowly starting to forgive Will Ferrell for his previous crimes against humanity. A little. (Insert clever segue here) I’ve finally made the decision to drop my mechanical engineering class and take another quarter of school. I guess now I should make sure I let the school in on this, huh? Finally, is DeviantArt ever going to get moved to their new servers? Every day I keep stopping by hoping that they actually have the bandwidth for me to download wallpapers and skins to waste my time with but they still don’t. I’m just too impatient.

I haven’t tried this yet,

[]1I haven’t tried this yet, because it won’t work here at work, but Deskswap looks pretty cool. Aside from the horrible security liability of letting everyone in the world see what you left open on your desktop when you went out for some Kung Pao chicken that is. Meanwhile, I’m currently up in the air as to whether or not I should forge ahead and graduate this quarter, or back off a little bit to give myself more time for the job search and graduate winter quarter. What to do, what to do??? If I wait a quarter it means I get to take some classes I wanted to but thought I couldn’t, like CIS 782 (3D graphics) and Art 455 (Holography). Very tempting. However, more loan debt is not so tempting so I remain undecided at this point. All this matters very little however in light of the fact that I will most likely be destroyed by the musical apocalypse of godspeed you black emperor! this coming Monday at the Wexner. Could I be any more excited? The answer is in fact, no I could not.

Fucinet is currently rocking my geek world with episode downloads of Space Ghost and the Brak Show. Oh man, I’m in love. “And if you think you’re going to get any sympathy from the shark, well then you won’t.”

The template picker finally started working again, so I’ve got this new look but I’m still not quite happy. I really want a more personalized template, but I’m just too lazy to work on it.

I’ve started thinking that I might decide not to graduate this quarter after all. When I met with my faculty advisor to ok my graduation application, he seemed to think I was taking on a lot with my course load and trying to find a job at the same time. I think I may drop a class, so I can have more time to look for a job. Of course that means more loans and 3 more months in school, but I think I can deal with that.

Where did I go? Well

Where did I go? Well that seems like a rather odd question, considering that if you’re reading this odds are that you’re me, because I can’t really see anyone else reading this. If you’re asking and you’re not me, well then piss off, its none of your business now is it? No no, I kid. The truth is that I haven’t posted for 4 days because I’m starting to question the need for this, as it turns out that my life really isn’t too interesting. But then you knew that, didn’t you?

Lately: Wolfenstein Multiplayer Test. Whee! All I have to say is that the flamethrower is more fun than something of that nature should be allowed to be.

As it so happens, I start my final quarter of school tomorrow. Whee? I’m not entirely sure how I feel about that. I’ll keep you posted. Due to my new removed from campus location I had to buy a parking pass today, and do you know what? They didn’t mention anything about the ticket that I got last year. Screw you porkchop! I have defeated the system, and I do believe I deserve a Tofutti Cutie for my efforts.

Now, lets check who’s reading their referrer logs: Brett? Just curious to see if it works or not. In case it does: Hi Brett. Your blog is super rad.

Finally, a note to myself: You ordered the skull shirt from Diesel Sweeties today. Congratulations you magnificent bastard. Expect it in 3-4 weeks.
